Emmpat holds on in a thriller
Emmpat (4/1) made it two from two over fences when just holding the strong challenge of odds-on favourite Archie Boy in the Guinness Surge Novice Chase.
David Casey 's mount had just headed The God Of Love when that rival fell two out and, after getting in a little bit close at the final fence, was galvanised by Casey on the run-in to hold off the 9/10 jolly by a neck.
“He's been a great servant, and David gave him a brilliant ride. He didn't have as much experience over fences as the other two (Archie Boy and The God Of Love) but he jumped quite well. I was afraid he might hurdle them a bit,” said a delighted winning trainer Charlie Swan.
“He has to have fast ground, and could go to Roscommon for their good novice if the ground is suitable. A return to the flat at Dundalk is also an option,” added Swan.
Davy Russell who took a crashing fall from the God Of Love was stood down for the day.
