Gordon Elliott captured the top trainer award at the Cheltenham Festival last week with an amazing eight winners, and he made it nine winners in four days on the domestic front this week with yet another double at Cork this afternoon. Black Tears completed a short-priced brace for the master of Cullentra House when ultimately taking the Racing Home For Easter Festival Mares (Ladies Pro/Am) Flat Race in convincing fashion.
The pace was steady enough in the first half of this two-mile event which developed into a match between the 8/13 favourite and newcomer Barrington Court from early in the straight.
The pair drew right away and Lisa O’Neill’s mount got on top inside the final furlong to score by two and three quarter lengths. Court Maid finished a further ten lengths back in third.
Elliott was on the mark earlier on the card with 13/8 chance Lieutenant Colonel in the featured UCC Horse Racing Society Hurdle.
Davy Condon, assistant trainer to Elliott, said, "She would have learned loads from the first day when she was very green and Lisa said today it did her no harm that things got a bit messy because she was able to get a lead into the straight.
"I'd say they are two good fillies and they pulled ten lengths away from the third.
"Gordon reckons if she is ok after this that she'll go for the €100,000 bumper in Fairyhouse at the Easter festival. She'll then go out on her summer holidays before going hurdling next season."
