The Gavin Cromwell trained Pour Pavore exploited a favourable mark over fences when easily landing the Kevin Brady Car Sales Handicap Chase at Navan.

Sent straight into handicap company after just the three runs, the seven-year-old was able to race off a rating some 10lb below his hurdles mark.

Always to the fore under Kieren Buckley, the gelding took over from fellow topweight Rolly Bowley Boy approaching five out and made the rest.

A mistake at the second last did little to halt momentum, as the Cromwell trained runner kept on strongly to win by 13 lengths.

“He got into a lovely rhythm and jumped great. When he's schooling at home he's inclined to make a mistake or two,” said Cromwell.

“He was good bar the second last where he was a little bit long.

“He pressed on plenty soon enough in front but he got away with it, the ground is not as bad as the description.

“He has the option to go back over hurdles as well, we'll see.”
