Dunroe Boy claimed the second division of the two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe despite getting leg weary in the closing stages.
The story of the race, unfortunately, though was Killian Moore riding a finish a circuit early on front-runner The Millar Murray
The young claimer miscalculated and thought he was set for victory with a lap to go.
He realised his mistake after being passed going to the fourth last but his mount was a spent force before the next and pulled up two from home.
Moore then tried to jump the final flight on the gelding only to be unseated.
3/1 favourite Dunroe Boy had hit the lead at the second last and soon pulled clear of nearest pursuer Pennys Tune
John Carr 's charge got tired going to the last, however, and Ian McCarthy had to nurse him home to record a nine-length victory. Yachvili finished well to grab second despite getting a bump off Pennys Tune on the run-in.
The winner was making a return to the smaller obstacles having run well to finish second over fences at Clonmel last time.
"He got quite tired as he was out in front a long time. He might go to Bellewstown next," said Carr afterwards.
The Stewards hit Moore with a 10-day ban while Rob Jones, rider of Pennys Tune got three days for careless riding.
