Drifting Mist outgunned the opposition by striding out well in the home straight at Leopardstown to win the closing mile and a half fillies maiden.

After two runner-up finishes at Naas and Limerick the three-year-old wasn’t winning out of turn.

She raced in rear with only Palace Of Winds behind her as Teocht (7/4f) and Velvet Ribbon cut out the fractions.

As the front-runners faded in the straight, Drifting Mist (7/2) surged through to beat Palace Of Winds (20/1) by three and a quarter lengths. Palace Of Winds also came home well but was no match for the winner.

Jockey Shane Foley was bringing up a Leopardstown double on Drifting Mist and said: “I should have won on her in Naas. Greenness beat her and also me going into a stupid gap.

“She’s improving and the more racing she gets the more she’ll improve. She stays all day and loves the fast ground.

“They were trapping along there today. She hits the odd flat spot, but the further they go the better she is.”
