Jockey Jack Doyle drove High Counsel up the hill in Downpatrick to collar Better Back Bob on the line and win by a head at 16/1 in the two mile seven maiden hurdle.
Better Back Bob delivered at 16/1 for Doyle’s father Pat. The five-year-old gelding improved into third after the second last hurdle. He made further headway into second after the last and reeled in Better Back Bob (11/8 favourite) who had tried to make all.
The gambled on Fellow Indian 14/1 to 10/1 at the track, was six and a half lengths away in third.
Jack Doyle said: “I think that’s my 200th track winner. He travelled very well and coming to the last I knew the one in front was tying up. Dad said he had improved since the last day.
“I’ll go back to England for the winter and then see about the visa to go back to America next summer. I had a couple of winners in America this summer and I’ve ridden a Grade One winner out there. Hopefully I’ll get out there again.
“It’s pretty much English and Irish lads riding out there so it’s a home from home.”
