The Liz Doyle trained Cordovan Brown was the nicely backed winner of the concluding Black Hills (Mares) Bumper at Punchestown today, scoring a first winner on just his second ride for jockey Sean O’Keeffe.
The daughter of Flemensfirth, seemingly named after a paint colour, had initially been chalked up at 50/1 very early-doors yesterday evening and while that was quickly hoovered up, she was again backed this morning. Early prices of 9/1 were cut to 6/1 generally during the day, before Cordovan Brown eventually easing to an 8/1 S.P..
Jockey O’Keeffe, whose only other ride was when finishing in rear on Inca Royale at Cork in August, produced Cordovan Brown to lead with a furlong and a half to race and in the end the pair went on to record a three and a half lengths win over Florazi
Doyle later commented "Sean (18) is a good kid to ride. He joined me only two or three months ago, and that's just his second ride on the track."
She added “she went well in a schooling race a few weeks ago and has a big old engine. She is one of our nicer ones, and could go for the Listed mares bumper at Navan.”
