Supreme Doc followed up on his recent win at Killarney as he took the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Handicap Chase for his trainer Donal Dorgan with Declan Lavery (eighth winner of the new campaign) in the saddle.
The 7yo son of Dr Massini won two point-to-point's from fourteen starts before winning a Maiden Hunters Chase at Downpatrick in March of this year on his racecourse debut.
He then put in two good efforts in Hunters Chases at Tramore and Down Royal before winning again on his Handicap Chase debut last time out at Killarney.
Sent off the 5/2 favourite to follow up this evening, he chased the leaders early on and jumped well.
He took closer order at the third last and travelled well before going second after the next. He soon led on the run to the last and kept on well under pressure from there and scored by a length and three parts. Stonesinmypocket couldn’t match the winner on the run-in and had to settle for second at 9/1 (drifted from 4/1 this morning and opening show of 7/1) under Alan Crowe for Christy Roche while Top Four was a further length back in third at 4/1 under Paul Carberry for Tony Martin.
Winning trainer Donal Dorgan said afterwards: "He just got the ground that he needed. He was off for a while since his win in Killarney as he had a throat infection. We got it right eventually.
"We have no plans for him now we will see what to do with him. It was just a lack of fitness with him at the end. He might come back here in a month’s time for the big one (the Midlands National)."
