Djakadam looks a chasing type and got off the mark at the first time of asking over fences in the beginners chase at Leopardstown.
Ruby Walsh produced his mount to lead over the last in the 2m3f event and he galloped on well to record a length-and-a-quarter success.
Three had jumped the last with chances and Si C'Etait Vrai just edged out Minsk by a head for the runner-up spot.
The winner, sent off 11/8 favourite, had won twice over timber last season and been fourth in the Grade 1 at Punchestown on his final start.
“He had one or two hairy jumps early but was fantastic after that when Ruby sent him about his job,” said Mullins.
“He's a natural and has great scope for jumping. His pedigree suggests he'll have no problem going three miles.
“He'll get a couple of nice big entries now. Ruby couldn't get a pull of him to pull up and that tells us he had a huge amount left in the tank.”
