Trainer Aidan O’Brien and his jockey son Donnacha O’Brien teamed up for the second leg of personal doubles for both men at Dundalk today as 95 rated Diodorus (4/9f) broke his maiden status with a hard fought win in the Download The Ladbrokes App Maiden.

Jockey O’Brien needed to be at his strongest on Diodorus, runner-up in last October’s Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown, as the son of Galileo eventually fought back to beat WInston Wolfe by a neck, to win at the seventh attempt.

The O’Briens were earlier successful when combining with different family members as father Aidan supplied daughter Ana O’Brien with a winner on Nutcracker Suite while Donnacha’s earlier success was on board his brother Joseph O’Brien’s Dilmun

Both Dilmun and Diodorus were bred and are owned by the Niarchos family's Flaxman Stables Ireland Ltd.

Following Diodorus’ win, Donnacha O’Brien stated “I thought he'd win easier than that but the blinkers are there for a reason. He has ability but getting it out of him is a bit more of a problem."
