Talented teenager Luke Dempsey partnered his fourth career win at Cork today when steering the Michael McElhone trained Drinmoy Lad to win the '2 Million Furlongs' Handicap.
Despite having had three previous winners to his name, Dempsey was able to use a full 10lbs claim in the race, having been declared to ride Drinmoy Lad before partnering his third winner (at Dundalk last night).
Dempsey was sent Drinmoy Lad to the front over a furlong out and stayed on well for a length and a half win over Cookie Crumbles
The winner is owned by the eight member Get Back On Board Syndicate, from Leitrim, while trainer McElhone was not present for the race.
The race was named in honour of an award which Cork Racecourse recently won, presented by N.I.S.O. The racecourse was awarded the Supreme Prize for Safety in Ireland, having had two million hours, on site, without anyone from the public suffering an injury or needing a medical treatment.
