The Mags Mullins-trained Debuchet made all for a stylish success in the opening rated novice chase at Fairyhouse this afternoon.

The grey, runner-up in the 2017 Cheltenham bumper, had failed to shine over hurdles in the last two seasons but made no mistake on his debut over fences.

Danny Mullins was positive on the well backed 2/1 favourite (from 4/1) and the six-year-old jumped well throughout in the two-mile contest.

He was asked to quicken away after the second last and looked in control going to the final fence.

The French-bred galloped on strongly to post a convincing four length success over An Fraoch Mor

Mags Mullins said:- “You would have to be happy with that. He did it well and Danny gave him a lovely introduction into it.

“Fingers crossed he’ll be alright as he’s been a bit tricky with mishaps and things. The team at home and the vets and Fethard clinic have all been a great help in getting him right.

“That might be his job. He was hitting the bar last year but it’s hard to keep him right. We think we have him right now.

“He schooled around Clonmel. It was good to get that into him and he popped around there lovely.”
