Debuchet confirmed the good impression he created on debut at Naas earlier this month by going one better in the Leopardstown Club Membership (Pro/Am) Flat Race.
The French-bred gelding filled the runner-up spot behind Red Jack at Naas and, after being easy enough to back this morning, was well-backed on track from 9/4 into 13/8 joint favourite.
Patrick Mullins elected to make all on the son of Smadoun, and was travelling best when asserting early in the straight.
He kept on really well inside the final furlong to beat fellow joint favourite Le Richebourg (third in that Naas event) by six and a half lengths, with Dasmyhoss a further half-length back in third.
Winning trainer Mags Mullins said, “I think he came on from the last day. He’s a smart horse and jumps well. Fingers crossed everything stays right with him.
“I don’t know where we’ll go but we’ll see how he is after this. He’s a nice horse to look forward to for next year.
“He jumps really well and has gone around in two schooling hurdles. I’m charmed with him, and Patrick was very good on him.
“The syndicate are a great bunch of lads. There are a lot of them in it and they are from Dublin, Mayo and all around.
“We’ll wait and see how he comes out of this before deciding about Cheltenham. We’ll think about it. He’s so laid-back and unassuming that I wouldn’t worry about travelling with him. He was beautiful to watch there and has a great temperament.”
Betfair Sportsbook go 25/1 the winner to follow up at Cheltenham, while Paddy Power have introduced him at 20/1.
