It’ll Do My Day (7/2) and Castle Star (7/2) served up an exciting conclusion to the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Cork with the former just edging things by a short head.

Second in the opening race of the turf campaign at the Curragh less than a fortnight back, the Gary Carroll-ridden It’ll Do My Day showed the benefit of that experience.

However the well-supported Castle Star lost nothing in defeat as the front pair drew on by three and a half lengths from favourite Jarvis (3/1) in third.

"Gary said he got lonely in front and if he went another furlong he'd have won easier," said winning trainer Mick Mulvany.

"I don't know what the plan is with him and we were taking it one day at a time trying to win a maiden so we have that now.

"He was giving us the right vibes all along and I knew he was a good horse. He is bred to get further so it's onwards and upwards and he'll handle good ground."
