Dasheen had reportedly given his County Tyrone-based trainer Lady Jane Gillespie a great lift during her illness when winning at Tipperary in April. The Bahamian Bounty gelding came up trumps again in the immediate aftermath of Lady Jane's death to score in the concluding Paulstown Handicap at Gowran.
In the circumstances it wasn't a surprise to see Billy Lee gesture skywards as he passed the line in front on the 10/1 shot (from 14s). He had half a length in hand over the favourite, Not A Bad Oul Day
Now in the training role at the Gillespie's Caledon base, Adrian McAllister said: "I'm delighted but sad at the same time. It was nice to get it but you couldn't write it - the boss is being buried tomorrow. It's going to be tough but that will ease it a bit.
"She had a winner in a point-to-point on Saturday, and this horse was her first winner on the Flat. He's been a good servant to us, and hopefully he can get another one."
C. O'Donoghue, rider of Doonard Prince trained by Ross O'Sullivan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung left.
