Three-year-old handicaps often make for lively betting heats and such was the case in the Fairyhouse Summer Series event over seven furlongs. The only previous winner in the line-up though, Paynes Find beat off all the 'dark ones' to land the spoils under Fran Berry.
Paynes Find took over from Municipal in the final hundred and fifty yards and the Gowran victor went on to prevail by a length and three parts. Penny Serenade (10s this morning and 8s into 7/2 on track) appeared to have every chance in third, a neck adrift.
The big 'buzzer' all day was Art Scene Pat Flynn's filly was easier to back on track (out to 6/1) and she was in with a chance of gaining a minor placing when short of room inside the last. Danny Grant's mount then had to settle for ninth place. Glen Ginnie (7th) was another that had their path blocked inside the final furlong.
Charles O'Brien trains Paynes Find for his mother Jacqueline and he disclosed: "He's a tough and genuine horse. The draw is huge in a race like that (came out of stall one) and he had a completely trouble-free passage." (AM & EM)
