Gold Creek was presented with the race at the last in the Ballagh Mares Handicap Hurdle at Thurles as she registered a 25/1 shock for trainer Aengus King.

It looked set for a ding dong battle in the closing stages as Misty Millie and Gold Creek went to the last locked together but the former crashed out at the flight.

Gold Creek took full advantage, under Gavin Brouder, and went on to record a two-and-a-quarter length win over 9/4 favourite Nell's Well

The winner was gaining her first career success on her 25th attempt under rules having also run 12 times in point-to-points.

King said:- “She’s been a long time trying to break her duck. She cost very little and has been promising all the time.

“She goes in season a lot and even though we try our best to get the days right it doesn’t matter. We worked her two days ago and she showed but that’s just the way she is.

“She’s run some nice races and on that form should have won a race at some stage. We’re over the moon today.

“She’s a small filly and I’d say the light weight was a big help to her today. She has a lot of guts and if they try they will always win a race.

“We have her entered at Naas on Saturday and she might go there. We’ll see how she is after this.”
