Corbally got off the mark in good style when claiming the two-mile handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse this afternoon.
Mark Walsh produced the Beneficial gelding to tackle front-runner Kilmainham two out and he moved ahead of that rival going to the last.
The James Motherway trained gelding kept on well in the closing stages and won with a bit in hand as he posted a length-and-a-quarter verdict.
The winner had just failed to peg back World Citizen when last seen in action at Punchestown on New Year's Eve.
He had traded at 5/1 this morning but proved easy enough to back and returned 13/2. Norah Starr was sent off the 2/1 favourite but, after appearing to travel well before the second last, didn't make an impression in fifth.
“That's my first winner for JP (McManus) and it's grand to get that one on the board,” said Motherway.
“He was a bit unfortunate the last day when he was just touched off and we've freshened him up since then. We'll try to find something similar.”
