The Harry Rogers trained Calm Bay probably went further than he has ever done to win a race when gaining a sixth handicap win at the minimum five furlongs trip in the Lougher Stables Handicap at Bellewstown today, completing a double for jockey Robbie Downey.

Downey, successful on No Fear half an hour earlier, elected to steer a wide course on the son of Medecis who eventually stayed on well for a comfortable win over Blueberry Gal

Roger later stated “I told Robbie (Downey) to stay out on the hurdle track and he did and it made the difference. Right by the hurdle course it's good ground but on the inside it's slow and it was a good ride and the plan worked for once!

“He's a good young lad and is well worth his claim.”
