Appian Way (4/1) gained a belated first win at Clonmel in September and completed consecutive successes today, landing Downpatrick's Saint Patricks Coast Handicap Hurdle for trainer Charles O'Brien and jockey Jack Foley.
Beaten in his opening 28 races, the Sea The Stars-sired six year old got off the mark under Foley at Clonmel and today, under a 4lbs penalty, made all for a 25 lengths win over L'or Des Roses Money Heist the 4/7 favourite and successful at Galway on Saturday, faded tamely in the final half-mile and was well beaten in fifth.
Winning jockey Foley later said "I had to keep cajoling him along and when I got stuck into him, I thought I had a battle on my hands but he picked up really well. He winged the last, obviously had plenty left and that showed in the result.
"He is deadly and as I said the last day, he travels and jumps super. It is great he has got the act of winning now.”
The Champion Conditional Jockey added “big thanks to Charles (O'Brien) as well, he let me ride him when unfortunately, Bryan (Cooper) got hurt in Listowel.
