Dolce Sicily recorded consecutive May/June six-furlongs Sligo wins today as the Leigh Roche-partnered winner landed the Rosses Point Caravan Park Handicap (div II) for trainer Lee Smyth.
Today's races were flag-started due to mechanical issues with the starting stalls and the race started three minutes late, following some initial ragged false starts. On Tick and Caesar's Comet were eventually slowly away and at the business end, Dolce Sicily made most of the running and eventually fought off runner-up Fit For Function by half a length.
Jockey Roche steered the daughter of Epaulette to win at the venue on May 2 and following today's success, winning trainer Lee Smyth stated “it was absolute carnage out there and we were scundered with (slow-starting stablemate) Adams Barbour in the race before.
“This filly was entitled to come on from the last run and she loves it here. It’s very similar to the gallop we have in at home, the same design. They handle it well and it’s been a lucky track for us.
“She did a couple of false jumps at the start and Leigh (Roche) just said it had taken a fair bit out of her and he was wondering would she get home but she did. We’ll freshen her up now and find something else."
