Complete Fiction won at the 17th attempt when keeping on best from off the pace to land the Manguard Handicap at Leopardstown.
Rory Cleary had his mount tucked away in mid-division in the early stages as the field went along at a good clip. Although with more in front than behind him turning in, Cleary was still travelling well enough and once he switched his mount out for some daylight he found a willing partner.
The Make Believe gelding, now on his third trainer, hasn't been the easiest to win with but perhaps now he has gotten his head in front he may be able to win again.
Fahey had his first winner of the season at Listowel on Saturday(20/1) and followed up here with the 28/1 chance.
Jarlath Fahey said, “Triona (Burbage, owner) led the horse up herself. She comes into the yard every day and does everything with him.
“He’s promised so much on the gallops at home but never delivered. We always knew there was a race in him if we could get his head right.
“He ran ok in Dundalk and we gave him a break. He’s come back great and his attitude has been different. Finally we have got a tune out of him.
“He got cut out of it before the straight and dropped back. I thought that was the end of that. Rory found a few gaps, got him wide and he flew home.”
