Comhghairdeas made the breakthrough on his tenth start, as he took the Kildare Post Maiden under Declan McDonogh for Andy Slattery.

Second on five previous occasions, the son of Acclamation disappointed on his most recent outing at Galway last Monday.

Available at 16/1 last night, that price was quickly snapped up, and he went off at just 8s in the colours of winning owners the Men Of Forty Eight Syndicate.

Sent straight to the front by McDonogh, he made all. He was ridden over a furlong out, and was strongly pressed in the closing stages, holding on to score by a head. The Great Wall was the one just denied, and he was returned at 10/1 under Pat Smullen for Michael O'Callaghan. Littlevix (20s this morning, returned 7s) was a length back in third under Gary Carroll for Joe Murphy. At Your Service (from 9/2 on-course) and Conversely were the 7/2 joint-favourites, and they finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Slattery said afterwards: "I thought he would win last Monday but I'd say he didn't handle the track as he was beaten after two furlongs.

"He came out of it well and has been a long time trying to win a maiden. He got a bit weak after being gelded over the winter, and he'll probably be better as a four-year-old."

STEWARDS REPORTS

The Stewards received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer regarding, J.A.Stack, trainer, of Hark (GB), concerning the fact that the vaccinations contained in the passport for this horse were incorrect for the second successive occasion. In accordance with Rule 90 the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Hark (GB) and fined the trainer E350.

N.G. McCullagh, rider of Shinko Princess trained by C.P.Donoghue, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount had to check at halfway.

The Stewards informed V.Clifford, trainer that Anakar would have to be recertified before being declared to run from stalls again.

O.J. Orr, rider of Voge trained by Edward Lynam, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his saddle slipped and his mount started bucking before he was unseated.
