The second split of the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap saw Kevin Coleman emulate Paul Flynn by completing a double on the card as Fleetfootsoldier (13/2) came from well back in the field to gain a third win of the year.
10lb claimer Calum Hogan did well to anchor his keen-going mount towards the rear and gradually brought him into contention in the straight. The Footstepsinthesand gelding struck the front over 50 yards out to score by three parts of a length from Pink Socks
“I entered him for a ballot because there was a three-year-old race here next Wednesday and it divided and he got in,” said Coleman.
“I didn't know it was for riders with 10 winners or less and I was a bit worried as Nathan (Crosse) usually rides him, he's very good on him. He's not easy at all, he's very difficult.
“Calum rode him out a few times at home so I said I'd give him the chance but I was really worried when we hadn't Nathan on our side.
“The horse is genuine, he is what he is but he tries. It's grand to get the win for Calum because he's a big lad and the weight is going to go against him.
“It's great for the new owners as well, the Square Bar in Portlaoise. Mick Scully and Conor Sweeney have just bought him off me.
“I knew there was a win in him and I said to them 'get him now and you'll get a win out of him'. I've had my fun out of him.
“There is going to be a bit of drinking in the Square Bar tonight but I won't be there, I'll be on the M50!”
