Codd steers Poli to Sligo success

Tue 23rd Jun 2009, 20:47

Pat Martin was full of praise for amateur jockey Jamie Codd following his winning ride on the Co Meath trainer's Irish Poli in the Corner House (QR) Handicap Hurdle at Sligo today.

Irish Poil was given a patient ride by Codd, making progress through the field to lead after the second last flight, eventually staying on well for a seven lengths win.

Martin stated "Jamie gave that a very good ride and said he avoided the fall of Bet Out Of It at the third last flight by hurdling over him!"

He added "Irish Poli is a very nervous and keen racing horse and needs to race on the outer away from other horses. There are few lads better than Jamie at getting horses to settle. Irish Poli will now mix it between Flat and hurdling and can drop back to two miles over jumps."
