Jamie Codd today edged on by three from Patrick Mullins in the race to be crowed champion amateur rider for the 2016/17 season. Codd won on the Gigginstown House Stud-owned and Gordon Elliott-trained Cracking Smart in the concluding Auld Stand Ratoath & Kelly Pub Ashbourne Supporting Meath GAA Race Day INH Flat Race at Fairyhouse.
Gigginstown and Elliott were 'topping and tailing' the programme as the Jack Kennedy-ridden Potters Point won the curtain raising beginners chase at 3.00.
Cracking Smart meanwhile showed the benefit of an outing in a Naas maiden hurdle, and indeed a run in his native France in 2016, to convincingly justify 13/8 favouritism by thirteen lengths from Narcissistic (also in the Gigginstown silks).
"He's a nice horse. He's a big galloper, a big three-mile horse for next year," said Elliott.
"He's finished now and will go jumping hurdles. He's had a run and all over hurdles. He'll be a nice horse for next year hopefully.
"It's nice to finish the day off with a winner and it's great for Jamie, it's been a great couple of days for him."
