Gavin Cromwell had a big day at the Curragh at the end of August with Sretaw in the Irish Cambridgeshire, and the County Meath-based trainer could now have another smart filly on his hands in the shape of Elusive Ivy (20/1), successful in the finale at Thurles under Jamie Codd.

A daughter of American-bred, French-based sire, Elusive City, out of a Canadian-bred mare, Elusive Ivy was making her debut in this Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Mares Flat Race.

First-timers were to dominate the finish of this bumper as Elusive Ivy benefitted from a patient steer from point-to-point champion Codd, eventually seeing off fellow debutant, Lady Dromlac by five lengths.

Cromwell disclosed: "I always liked her but she has a flat pedigree and I was worried as to whether or not she'd stay.

"Jamie gave her a fabulous ride. He sat and waited and waited and in the end she galloped all the way to the line.

"I don't have anything in mind for her now."

The Stewards fined James Grace, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of She'llbeallright in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

Mr P.T. Foley, rider of Rock On Lilly trained by Thomas Foley, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly throughout.
