Clarcam recorded his eighth career win when overcoming testing conditions to take the Micro Dog ID Chase at Clonmel.

The Califet gelding seems to have been around a long time but is still just a seven-year-old, and has proved a grand money-spinner for connections with Grade 1 wins as a novice at both Leopardstown and Aintree.

He drifted out from odds-on to 6/5 favourite against three rivals in this 2m4f event, and headed the front-running Val De Ferbet at the second last.

A mistake at the last proved no barrier as Jack Kennedy’s mount stayed on well on the run-in to score by two lengths. Archie Meade was the only other finisher some 37 lengths adrift as Upazo was pulled up before the second last.

Olly Murphy, assistant to winning trainer Gordon Elliott, said “I’m a bit surprised as he hates the ground and he’s had three quick runs. It’s a credit to the horse and he is a dual Grade 1 winner. He was tough and I don’t think anything went to plan but he’s won another €11,000.

“He’s in again on Sunday (in the Tied Cottage) at Punchestown but he won’t run. He’s a tough little horse and I’m delighted to see him win.”
