Eddie Cawley saddled his second winner this week as Waittillitellyou ultimately ran out a very decisive winner of the featured Conways Yard ‘Egg And Spoon’ Handicap Hurdle at Cork.
The Batterstown trainer sent out Misty Hollow to score at the rescheduled Navan meeting on Monday and followed up here in this three-mile stamina test. West Breeze held a slight advantage when falling two out leaving Waittillitellyou in front and Phillip Enright’s mount soon asserted.
The nine-year-old gelding was far from fluent at the final flight but it made no difference as he cruised home on the run-in to beat Wowsham by an easy four lengths. Franciscan Rock was never travelling well on the very testing ground and the 3/1 favourite could only plug on at one pace a further 16 lengths back in third.
Cawley said, “He has had his own little problems so you couldn't race him on good ground.
"He was ready to run at Christmas but my horses were coughing, so I left him alone, and then we were getting summer ground for a while, which I couldn't believe. I was delighted to see the recent rain coming.
"He'll need a dig in the ground to run next at Fairyhouse but that's where we'll go if we can get him in."
