Capel At Dawn (100/30 into 5/2 favourite) justified the confidence of her backers in the Play Golf At Gowran Park Fillies Claiming Race.
Dylan Browne McMonagle donned the silks of the Capel Street Syndicate on Joseph O’Brien’s Dawn Approach chestnut, and she raced in mid-division.
Ridden to go fourth two furlongs out, Capel At Dawn challenged over a furlong out.
Leading in the final hundred yards, the three-year-old was pressed close home but kept Stormy Belle at bay by half a length.
Stable representative Brendan Powell said: “He said they went very quick early and she’s tough and put her head down and battled away.
“She was in there on pretty favourable terms with a few of them and especially with his claim as well.
“We’ll see if anybody claims her and I’m sure she’ll win another few.”
There were no claims after the race.
The Stewards informed W. McCreery, trainer that Amelia Jane would have to be recertified before being declared to run from stalls again.
At the request of the Handicapper, the Stewards obtained a report from Joseph Patrick O'Brien, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Capel At Dawn, placed first, as compared with its most recent run.
Brendan Powell, Authorised Representative for the trainer, reported that Capel At Dawn ran very free on its previous run and failed to get home.
He felt his charge settled much better today in what was a lesser race and was of the opinion that a combination of both had helped to bring bout the apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
