Adam Caffrey struck on his first ride for Dermot Weld when scoring on Tachos in the apprentice handicap at Gowran Park.

The Gleneagles filly came to lead passing the two pole in the nine-furlong contest and kept on well in the closing stages to hold the challenge of Puturhandstogether by a neck.

The 5/1 winner had been placed third in both starts this year.

“Adam Caffrey was having his first ride for me and I thought he gave her an excellent ride,” said Weld.

“We've got some good apprentices in this country. James Ryan rode a winner for me on Friday night at Fairyhouse and gave the one there a very good ride and Adam Caffrey gave that filly a lovely ride. They are very promising young riders.

“He rode exactly as we thought the race might pan out. I think his jockeyship is excellent.

“She ran an excellent race in Leopardstown and I thought on that run she'd be hard to beat today. All she had to be was the same filly to win today and she was, she reproduced it perfectly.

“She's a gorgeous filly, lovely attitude and a very laidback filly. That's probably her right trip, she's a mile-and-a-quarter filly. During the summer hopefully there is another one for her.”
