The 6/4 favourite Byerley Bear for Andrew Lynch & Henry De Bromhead got off the mark over fences on his sixth attempt as he took the July 13th BBQ Evening Beginners Chase.
Having won his bumper and maiden hurdle at Cork, the 7yo chestnut son of Exit to Nowhere, added his beginners chase this evening and is unbeaten on his three starts at the venue.
Having raced in the lead from the third fence he was joined on the run to the last by American Job (4/1), who looked a big danger.
They rose to the last together however the Tom Nagle trained gelding crashed out there leaving Byerley Bear come home a clear four and a half length winner. Ferris Bueller came in second under Davy Russell for Conor O’Dwyer at 7/1 while Limerick Lane was a further short head back in third under Mark Walsh for Christy Roche at 8/1.
Winning trainer Henry De Bromhead said afterwards: "His form was good in the autumn but he lost his way a bit on real winter ground.
"We probably had a bit of luck there but we will take it. I don’t think he was in love with being in front as he held his head high, he might be better suited to being dropped in.
"He will run in handicaps now."
De Bromhead went on to talk about Sizing Europe saying: "He is in good form and the soft ground may even help him a bit as he is probably not as quick as he was.
"It’s always exciting when he runs and I’m looking forward to it."
Just ten runners took part in the 2m contest with fancied horses Gimli’s Rock and Rayhani both non-runners along with Just Moscow, Castle Anshan and A Drop Of Bubbly.
