Brother Bennett (14/1) got up close home to deny the favourite Phil's Magic in the bumper at Killarney, the Ring Of Kerry (Pro-Am) INH Flat Race.

Trained by Liz Doyle, and ridden by Jonathan Burke, the four-year-old grey was sent off a 14/1 chance, after finishing fifth of seven on his debut at Down Royal in February.

Given a patient ride by Burke, the Thomas Murphy owned gelding got the better of Phil's Magic by half a length at the line, after the duo had a great battle in the closing stages.

The runner-up was returned 7/4 favourite under Robbie McNamara for Dessie Hughes, while newcomer Work Du Breteau (14/1 to 10/1) finished a further eight and a half lengths back in third under David Mullins for his father Tom.

Barry Murphy, Liz Doyle's partner, said afterwards: "The ground at Down Royal was very heavy and they went no gallop and he was a bit free early on as a result. It was muddily race.

"He is a good horse, he is for sale, and he will go to Brightwells. We schooled him over fences as well as we were originally going to run him a point-to-point."

The winner cost €14,000 at Arqana in July of 2012.
