Maccas Lad rallied gamely on the run-in to get his head back in front in the stayers handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse.

Ryan Treacy 's mount had jumped into the lead four from home in the 2m7f event and looked to have things in the bag as he kicked clear rounding the bend for home.

Oliver Brady's charge started to idle in front, however, and Status Update emerged as a big threat to challenge him, travelling better, going to the final flight.

That rival led at the last but Maccas Lad found more on the run-in to get back to the front in the closing stages and record a hard-fought neck success.

The 6/1 winner had been impressive in a decent Punchestown bumper back in November 2011 but had shown only glimpses of that ability over timber before today.

Brady has had a tough time with ill-health over the past few years but was in fine voice in the parade ring and said afterwards:- “I'm feeling great after that! I'll give you the headlines – Brady is back with a bang!

“This horse is not blessed with too much speed but he's got great staying power. I'm delighted for the owners who have persevered with him as he's had some problems. That won't be the last time he wins.” Shattered Dream and Peace In The West were sent off the 7/2 joint-favourites but both failed to make an impression in sixth and seventh respectively.
