Apple Of His Eye (9/2 from 13/2 before the off) landed the concluding older horses' maiden under 7lb claimer Jamie Powell.

Fourth on her previous start at Killarney, she was waited with in mid-division before improving into third place with a quarter of a mile to run. The daughter of Mehmas picked up well to lead just under a furlong from home and was driven out to score by two lengths from the running-on Ms Eagleton with Jaafel a further head away in third.

Winning trainer Dick Brabazon said: “I’ve had six seconds since my last winner so it’s great that she has won.

“I was probably a bit slow finding her right distance. She’s a miler who might go nine furlongs.

“I thought she was a bit faster earlier. She is a filly that was a bit tricky last year and took a while to get organised. She spent the year learning the game.

“Jamie is great value for his 7lb claim. She is a bit small and when he got on well with her in Killarney, I said leave him on her.”
