The Charles O’Brien trained Boronia got off the mark on her tenth career start as she took the last at Dundalk this evening the Family Funday Sunday 7th September At Dundalk Stadium Handicap.
Ridden for the first time by Conor Hoban, the daughter of Dalakhani finished seventh behind Patrolman over the course and distance last week, but she managed to reverse the form tonight.
Sent off a 16/1 chance, the victorious grey four-year-old raced prominently throughout, and she was on the heels on the leaders for much of the race.
She got a nice run through on the inside as they entered the straight, and she hit the front two furlongs out, keeping on well from there to score by half a length at the line.
Patrolman didn’t have the clearest of passages in the straight, and he ran on well down the outside to take second at 8/1 (from 12’s on-course) under Sean Corby for ‘Shark’ Hanlon, while Whatever It Takes was two lengths back in third under Fran Berry for Niall Madden at 20/1. Coach Bombay and Zambezi Tiger went off the 3/1 joint-favourites, the latter from 6/1 on-course, but both disappointed, finishing ninth and twelfth respectively.
Conor Hoban said afterwards: "She got a nice position from a lovely draw and they didn’t go overly quick.
"She got a lovely toe into the race and she is genuine and tries hard and she saw it out well."
