Dawn Trouper ticked a flat maiden win off the list in the www.dundalkstadium.com Maiden at Dundalk this evening as the Jim Bolger trained gelding is now reportedly “ready to go” for a career hurdling.

The son of Dawn Approach was today gaining an overdue first win at the eighth attempt, having earned prize-money on all bar one of those starts, and comfortably beat Wajaaha by two and three parts of a length.

The winner was steered to victory by Rory Cleary and afterwards Ger Flynn, Bolger's travelling head man, later said “it’s not before his time and he’s been knocking on the door running against some good horses. He seems to love this surface, and Rory said he won well there. We have the key to him now, and hopefully it’s onwards and upwards from here.

“We’ve schooling him over hurdles and he jumps very well so he’s ready to go.

“He’s a half-brother to Puncher Clynch who won the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown and he won up here as well. He’s well related and we have a nice yearling out of the mare this year as well.”
