Bog Warrior scores easily on chasing debut
Bog Warrior maintained his unbeaten record (when completing the course) making all to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase for his trainer Tony Martin with Davy Russell aboard in impressive fashion.
Having won his bumper at Fairyhouse on New Year's Day of this year beating Burn And Turn by half a length he then went straight over hurdles.
On his hurdling debut over the course in February he fell at the last when in third in the race won by Lios A Chioll but made no mistake on his next start winning at Cork maiden hurdle by four lengths in March.
Having his first start over fences today the son of Strategic Choice made all and asserted from before the last to score easily by seven and a half lengths at the odds of 9/4 joint favourite.
The other 9/4 joint favourite, Flemenstar who was backed from an opening show of 9/1 this morning, finished second for Peter Casey and Andrew Lynch while Baily Green was third at 6/1 a further seven and a half lengths behind.
Winning trainer Tony Martin said afterwards: "He has always shown plenty at home and we have a lot of schooling done with him. Fingers crossed he has a big future ahead of him."
Eddie O'Leary of Gigginstown House Stud added: "He is a very nice horse. He might go for the Drinmore Novice Chase next. Let's just say we won’t be going the handicap route with him!"
Bog Warrior was completing a double for his jockey Davy Russell & his owners Gigginstown House Stud, who had earlier scored with Il Fenomeno
