Newcomer An Caisteal Nuadh provided Nina Carberry with a winner on her 32nd birthday, as he took the bumper at Limerick, the Ladbrokes Munster National 9th October Flat Race.
The five-year-old gelding was also providing trainer Gordon Elliott with a first and last race double (took the opener with Kashmiri Sunset .
Having opened at 5/2 on-course, the son of Scorpion came in for some market support, and went off the 2/1 favourite in the Imperial Racing Syndicate colours made famous by Gold Cup winner Imperial Commander.
After racing mainly in fourth, he took closer order on the outer entering the straight. He was the only one still on the bridle two furlongs out, and hit the front with a furlong left to go, keeping on well from there to score by five lengths. Frazel Express finished second under Katie Walsh for Peter Fahey at 5/2 (from 2's), while Foxearth (10's to 6's on-course), was a further four and three parts of a length back in third under David Roche for Henry De Bromhead.
Gordon Elliott said afterwards: "He worked well at home and while it probably wasn't the strongest race, I'd say he's alright. He travelled like a nice horse the whole way and Nina said he'd come on for it.
"He's a nice type of horse and jumps well.
"It was good to give Nina a winner on her birthday and the owners (Imperial Racing Syndicate) are with me a long time - we've had two horses for them and both have now won so it's great."
