Binocular gives Flynn his third winner of week
Pat Flynn recorded his third winner (scored with Scots Gaelic on Tuesday & Sword Of Honour yesterday) of the week at the Killarney August Festival as his Binocular just got the better of Mutiska in the final Flat race of the year at Killarney, the Ross Golf Club Handicap.
The versatile 7yo son of Observatory won a Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel in June of this year and ran well over the course and at Tramore since.
He was recording his fifth career win today and his third on the level.
The winner who was returned at 5/1 moved into third over two furlongs out. He then hit the front under pressure over a furlong from home before staying on well inside the final furlong just holding off Mutiska (backed from 20/1 this morning into 14/1 at the off) by a short head.
The pair went seven lengths clear of the third placed Sparring Partner who was returned at 4/1 while the 10/3 favourite Second Glance for Michael Flannery with Joseph O'Brien aboard finished a further four and a half lengths back in fourth.
Winning trainer Pat Flynn said afterwards: "He is a grand old servant. The ground was too fast for him at Tramore last time out, he needs an ease in the ground. He will go for another Handicap on the level next or a Handicap Hurdle."
Commenting on his bumper winner yesterday Flynn said: "I couldn't be here yesterday as I was saving hay, but Sword Of Honour has the makings of a very good horse."
