New Bidder (22/1) and Graham Gibbons led home a one two for the English when beating favourite Intisaab in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund 'Bold Lad' Sprint Handicap at the Curragh.
The best the home contingent could manage was the third place attainted by Andy Slattery's Sors However that Acclamation gelding was half a length and a head off New Bidder and Intisaab at the finish.
Winning trainer David Barron said: "He was touched off in a few good ones this year, and it's nice to get one. He (Graham Gibbons) was cool and you need a bit of luck in these races now and again.
"If he comes home alright he could go to Ayr next week. I don't think he will get into the Gold Cup, so he may go for the Silver."
The Stewards requested a report from David Barron (in GB), trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of New Bidder (GB), placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that today's going on the easy side of good was perhaps ideal. He also felt his horse was given a good ride having been sheltered from the head wind at the back of the field. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the contents of the report.
