Berry rewarded for his hectic day

Sat 3rd Sep 2011, 18:40

Fran Berry hot-footed it back from Haydock where he rode Hitchens in the Betfred Sprint Cup at 3.35 to guide Below Zero to a convincing success in the 6.10, the www.thetote.com September Handicap at Leopardstown.

Like he did at Dundalk in the middle of last month, Mark Johnston's Below Zero made all from his rails draw in two here and he had this seven furlong contest won from some way out. Last year's winner Hujaylea did good late work from behind but he was still a length and a quarter down at the line.

Berry said: "I had no luck in Haydock but it was an easy hour and ten minute chopper ride back (with Frankie Dettori and Keagan Latham).

"This fellow won very well and I was very happy when I saw the draw yesterday morning. He pricks his ears and only goes through the motions.

"All the horses I've ridden for Mark Johnston stay going very well and I'd say that this lad is well-up to Listed or Group 3 company."

Meanwhile Mark Johnston also struck in Turkey today.

Dordogne won the International France Galop FRBC Anatolia Trophy at Veliefendi in Turkey.

The British raiders dominated the Group Two contest and Alan Munro was always towards the fore aboard the Mark Johnston-trained winner.

He was strongly pressed by the George Baker-trained Belgian Bill inside the final furlong but held on bravely.

Godolphin's Emirates Champion completed a clean-sweep for the raiding party in third.
