Casey Top (7/1 into 3/1) came from the point-to-point fields with a tall reputation and after winning one handicap hurdle the Topanoora gelding got his chasing career off to the perfect start by landing the Tyrrellspass Novice Chase under Paul Carberry at Kilbeggan. He was deputising for the injured Bryan Cooper (finger injury expected to be out for ten days) and he was bringing his score to two on the evening following the win on Tom Horn half-an-hour earlier. Dashing Ruby was closing when coming to grief three out here whilst favourite St Devote also showed jumping frailties. When Spill The Beans got the last wrong it was left to Casey Top to come through and score. Meanwhile Sorted caused trouble at the start and never got into a racing rhythm when the tape went up, soon stopping under Alan Crowe.

Leonard Whitmore trains Casey Top for Casey Brothers Syndicate from Gorey and he said: "He knew his job jumping and jumped well. Carberry gave him a great old spin but the other horse making a mistake at the last was a fair help.

"He loves that old ground and he'll keep going for the summer. He'll probably come back here or go to the likes of Killarney."
