Barney storms home in Sligo opener

Benwilt Barney came with a well-timed run in the final furlong to claim the opening auction maiden at Sligo.

Shane Foley produced the 11/4f in the closing stages to collar Big In Japan

"Our only worry was the ground and he needed every bit of that trip," said winning trainer John McConnell.

"He'd want seven furlongs or a mile but we'll go next for the Tattersalls Sales Race at Fairyhouse. It's only six furlongs but he'll take his chance.

"Shane said they went very fast and he got a bit checked in his run."
