There were a couple backed in opposition to the favourite, Sherlock Holmes (11/8), but there was no disputing the Galileo colt's superiority on the track as he brought up a double for Ballydoyle, at Ballinrobe, in the Vaughanshoes.ie European Breeders Fund Maiden.

Ana O'Brien had been on the mark an hour earlier on Best Kept Secret and her brother Joseph took the reins on Sherlock Holmes.

The chestnut came forward nicely from a Curragh debut fifth placing to make all in this mile five event. Creative Talent (around 14s earlier on into 6s) loomed up threateningly leaving the back straight and Sherlock Holmes briefly looked vulnerable when moving a little wide.

However the 'jolly' was too strong from over a furlong out and he went on to beat Pincode and Creative Talent by two and three parts of a length and a length and a half.

"He stays well and he has a good attitude. He handled the track quite well considering it was only his second run," said Joseph.

"Hopefully he might progress. If the handicapper isn't too hard on him there might be a handicap at Galway for him or something, I'm not sure."

F.M. Berry, rider of Bold Bid trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount received interference and ran out of racing room in the back straight.
