“I was looking to take on Big Bucks over hurdles. I think we would have beaten him if he was right on the day, but he’s not a horse that can travel,” said Aughnacurraveel #8217;s trainer Thomas Cummins after his charge had hacked up in Limerick.
Those who were privy to Cummins’ views on Aughnacurraveel must have availed of the 5/1 on offer in the three mile chase.
The 10-year-old gelding put 10 lengths on 7/2 chance Harpsy Cord and another six lengths on 9/10 favourite Dushybeag This was a stout staying performance as he found plenty in defeating his rivals.
“He’s not a bad horse, but the press never gave him the credit he deserved and I want to get it now,” Cummins added.
“We’ll look for something in Galway for him. He’s run twice at Galway, but he didn’t seem to like it. He likes good ground though so if it is watered we’ll forget about it and leave him at home. He’s just a little bit temperamental."
