Asian Wing relished the step up to two miles in Dundalk as he routed his 10 rivals with a wide-margin victory.
He was sent off the 11/8 favourite (from 2/1 in the morning) on the back of a third place over a mile and a half here in February. Tonight was his third run for John Feane having switched from Takashi Kodama.
Fran Berry was in the plate and the pair raced in fifth before improving to get on terms two furlongs out. When Berry soon said go the son of Hawk Wing powered away and won easily by six lengths. Santo Prince at 12/1 kept on for runner-up money. He was half a length up on Authorative (20/1 from 33s) in third. He had cut out the running until headed by Asian Wing.
"He's a fun horse and he won that well. It was a bad race but they only look bad races until you go and try to win one," John Feane said.
"Dan Lynch is a new owner in the yard so it's great that he won for him.
"He could jump a hurdle as well. We'll see what the handicapper does and hopefully there is another little race on the Flat in him."
There were two significant gambles in this race that went astray. Well Insured was backed from 12/1 in the morning down to 5/1 on the off, but he blew the start and could only manage fourth. Glasson Lad shortened to 9/1 at the track from 20/1 before racing began. He was never in the hunt in 10th.
