Wings Like Arion gained a maiden win at Gowran today as the Jessica Harrington trained, Robbie Power partnered mare landed the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle.

The daughter of Beneficial had failed to win in her previous nine starts but readily made a winning handicap debut today when scoring easily by 11 lengths from Coole Craft

Power later revealed “when I walked it this morning I thought it would be better keeping out so we kept out wide.

“She had been a bit disappointing in a few of her maiden hurdles but had actually run very well in a maiden here one day.

“I rode her the last day over two-and-a-half and I said we'd drop back to two on that sort of ground. She saw it out well and she jumped really well out of the ground. It's hard work but she handled it really well.

“It's great for Geoffrey Ruddock who owns her, he's a gentleman. He's had some very good horses with Jessie but he's been waiting on a winner for a while so I'm delighted that she delivered for him.”
