After being placed on his first two starts, the 5/6 favourite Apache Outlaw made it third time lucky in the Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden.
Declan McDonogh 's mount broke well and was always in the front rank in company with 150/1 outsider Palace Gardens The Churchill colt was pushed along to lead over a furlong out and, despite running green and hanging left, kept on well to beat Palace Gardens by three parts of a length with Reinforce a further half a length back in third.
Brendan Powell, representing the winning trainer Joseph O'Brien, said: “Declan said he’s got loads of ability. They went no gallop and he will stay further.
“He’s had to kick when he did as he knows that he stays. He hung a bit the last time and he’s done it today.
“He didn’t hang the first time at Roscommon on soft ground. They didn’t get any rain here today and that ground is plenty quick enough for him.
“He’s a massive big horse and is still learning. He’s going to improve and I think the better the race the better he will be where he can get a lead for a bit further.”
