Ronan Whelan recorded yet another double at Dundalk as he partnered top-weight Shukhov to victory in the second division of the Dundalk Stadium Light Up Your Night Handicap.
Successful earlier on Rock On Rosie Whelan was completing his fourth brace of the winter at Dundalk with his other doubles coming on November 6th, 20th and December 11th.
Shukhov, who disappointed on the turf during the summer, is clearly enjoying his return to the all-weather, recording his second success in his last three runs.
Sent off the 5/2 favourite he was settled behind the leaders and improved into fourth as they entered the straight.
He came through to lead a furlong and a half from home, keeping on well under pressure from there, going on to score by a comfortable two and a quarter lengths. Ben Rumson (20/1) kept on well to take second under Connor King for Tim Doyle, while Usain (6/1 to 9/2) was a short head back in third under Michael Hussey for Paul Nolan.
Johnny Levins, who trains the winner for Seamus Mannion, said afterwards: "I'm delighted. It was a copybook ride from Ronan.
"I fancied him and I thought he would win tonight.
"It's a nice way to start the year - start as you mean to go on!"
